What's a Mad Max inspired battle car without a roof hatch? For me, incomplete!
Starting with a newish 55 gallon drum, I cut off both ends; one 4" from the rim and the other 2" from the end. The longer one will become the frame for the hatch, the part that surrounds you when you stand in the hatch, shielding you from the knife edge of the car's top. A front end collision using no framing would result in a person being sliced in half.
To prevent the warping of the overall shape of the hatch, the end cap is left in place until after the welding is completed. Then the metal inside the ring will be jigsawed out, to be used as material for the ha
